Barbara Bain , actually Mildred Fogel , (born September 13, 1931 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American actress . She became known through the television series Kobra, Take Over and Moon Base Alpha 1 .

Life

Barbara Bain attended the University of Illinois and graduated with honors in sociology and psychology . She then moved to New York to study dance with Martha Graham . However, since this was not financially lucrative, she first tried her hand as a model, but she found no fulfillment in this profession.

In 1955 she took acting lessons from Martin Landau , who was then a student at the Actors Studio . After initial antipathies, the two became closer and married on January 31, 1957. The marriage resulted in two daughters, the film producer Susan Landau Finch and the actress Juliet Landau .

Barbara Bain and Martin Landau then played theater together for some time and ultimately moved to Los Angeles , where her husband was hired by director Alfred Hitchcock for the film The Invisible Third .

At that time, Barbara Bain was more concerned with bringing up her two daughters, but was able to make a name for herself through some television appearances.

In 1966 she got one of the four leading roles in the series Cobra, Take Over ; her husband Martin Landau was initially only engaged as a recurring guest star and only became the lead actor from the second season. The series became a big hit and Barbara Bain was particularly popular with female viewers. She became the first woman to win three Emmy Awards in a row. In 1969 you ended your job at Kobra, take over . Because Martin Landau had too high a fee, he was deleted from the series, whereupon Bain left the series. However, she thereby committed a breach of contract and therefore a work ban was imposed on her until 1971.

After 1971 Barbara Bain first appeared in various television films such as Savage before she moved to London in 1975 to take a leading role in the British science fiction series Moon Base Alpha 1 , again at the side of her husband . This role was also a stroke of luck, with which she again achieved cult status . In Germany, for example, she received the bronze Bravo Otto from the youth magazine BRAVO in a readers' poll .

After the series was discontinued in 1977, she was primarily a guest star in various television series, such as Mord ist her Hobby or Agentin mit Herz . At the end of the 1980s, Barbara Bain and Martin Landau's marriage was in crisis. In 1993 they finally got divorced . After that, Barbara Bain concentrated mainly on her work at the theater, where she still had some great successes.

Since the 2000s, Barbara Bain has been seen at the cinema in films such as Panic (2000) and American Gun (2002). There were also appearances in various television series and short films. Her work includes more than 80 productions.
