The Beijing BJ80 is an off-road vehicle from the Chinese automaker Beijing Automobile Works , positioned above Beijing BJ20 and Beijing BJ40 . The military version has been around since 2012. The civil version was released in 2016. One source states that the BJ80C is the civil version and BJ80J is the military version. It may be that the military version was called the B80 earlier.

history

The civilian vehicle was officially presented as a concept vehicle for the first time at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show .

The series vehicle has been on sale in China since November 2016. Despite the joint Beijing Benz Automotive joint venture, Mercedes-Benz tried to prevent the market launch of the BJ80 because of its external similarity to the G-Class . Except for a few delays in production, this project was unsuccessful.

At the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2017, Beijing presented the BJ80 with a plug-in hybrid drive as a concept vehicle.

In November 2017, the IVM G80 was presented as an identical model from the Nigerian car manufacturer Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing . The G80 has been on sale in Africa since the beginning of 2018.

The BJ80 6 × 6 was presented as a prototype at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2018.

Technical specifications

The off-road vehicle is powered by a turbocharged 2.3-liter gasoline engine with an output of 184 kW (250 hp) and a torque of 350 Nm. This drive comes from Saab . Beijing acquired the rights to this engine from General Motors in 2009 and is also offering it in the Beijing BJ40 and the Beijing Senova D70 . The BJ80 accelerates to 100 km / h in 10.8 seconds and has a top speed of 160 km / h. The off-road vehicle is only available with a 6- speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive .

In 2019 the engine was revised to meet the China VI emissions standard. This reduced the output to 170 kW (231 hp).

A 2.8-liter diesel engine with 120 kW (163 hp) was also available between 2017 and 2018 .
