At the end of the lie is a German television film from 2000. It is the 9th film in the ZDF crime film series Bella Block . The film was directed by Martin Enlen based on a script by Fabian Thaesler . The main role of Bella Block is played by Hannelore Hoger .

Six-year-old Jacob Winter is reported missing by his mother Sophie Winter. She claims that he witnessed a man trying to rape her. Then he disappeared without a trace.

The next day, Jacob's body is found in a disused railroad car. For Chief Detective Bella Block, everything points to a perpetrator among the boy's circle of friends. The police are targeting Holger Brandt, Sophie Winter's brother-in-law, who is at odds with the Winter family.

But in the course of the investigation, it turns out that Sophie Winter killed her son. Cornered, she commits suicide in front of Bella Block. In a letter she confessed that she killed her son and wanted to kill herself because her husband wanted to leave her.
