Geldgier is a German television film from 1997. It is the third film in the ZDF crime film series Bella Block .
action
Shortly after Gregor Hoppe's release, who was convicted of kidnapping the son of the wealthy Mommsen family and had to serve twelve years, the then witness and policeman Peter Grabowski was found dead from the Elbe. Bella Block knew the victim and is still upset about how the man was treated by the authorities at the time. He was charged with collaborating with the kidnapper and participating in the ransom. However, the ransom has not surfaced to this day. In the meantime, this money is actually worthless, because the 1000 Mark notes paid have now become invalid. Only the rightful owner - the Mommsen family - could legally exchange it for new banknotes.
Bella Block thinks Gregor Hoppe is Grabowski's murderer, but he seems to have an alibi for the time of the crime. Nevertheless, Hoppe is under surveillance, but he manages to escape surveillance. The case takes an unexpected turn when Angelika Mommsen, the wife of Friedemann, who was kidnapped at the time, suddenly exchanges eight million old banknotes for currently valid ones in her house bank. Bella Block, who has just arrived at the Mommsens, is just as surprised when she meets Hoppe there too. It turns out that the kidnapping was staged by the Mommsens at the time to make company money available for themselves. Hoppe was supposed to serve as a scapegoat and receive half the money as a reward for his work. He now sees this at risk and begins to lose his nerve. He threatens both Angelika Mommsen and the commissioner with a weapon and demands "his money". When he realizes the hopelessness of his situation, he shoots himself. He had previously been present to have met Grabowski and whose fatal fall into the water would have been an accident.
