On the Hunt is a German television film by Markus Imboden from 1998. It is the 5th film in the ZDF crime series Bella Block .

action

In her fifth case, Bella Block is doing very well privately. She gets to know the likeable Simon Abendroth. But professionally, she is called to a village where a couple was murdered in cold blood. When another double homicide occurs during the investigation, Bella Block starts a race against time, suspecting that a perfidious serial killer is at work, possibly a hunter. A witness from the village accuses Swen Reinhardt, he is actually a hunter and since there is further evidence against the man, he is temporarily arrested. The landlord of the village, Hans Knipper, with whom Bella Block has taken a room, stands up for Reinhardt, and the village teacher Thomas Maasen also declares that the arrested person is innocent. Unexpectedly, an anonymous caller who pretended to be the wanted perpetrator over the phone can be identified. Although the commissioner is convinced that the man only wants to make himself important, she has him arrested. She hopes to lull the real murderer to safety so that he may give himself away. She announced that she was leaving because the case had been resolved. To say goodbye, she visits Thomas Maasen. She has suspected the village teacher for a while and is now on the offensive. She specifically speaks to him about the murders and in his remarks she recognizes how the abysses of human failure lurk behind the facade of the village teacher. Bella Block can actually persuade Maasen to confess the deeds through the skillful interviewing.
