The Most Beautiful Night of Life is a German television film by Andreas Senn from 2015. It is the 36th film contribution in the Bella Block film series .

action

The officer candidate Fritz Mühlstadt is rescued lifeless from the Elbe . Commissioner Bella Block is actually retired and has been asked by the public prosecutor to exceptionally take on this case, as the judiciary has certain limits in this matter that she as a private person does not have to adhere to. She investigates on the side of Malte Schnaak, with whom she has a rather strained relationship.

When questioned, the Navy stated that Mühlstadt fell drunk from the mast. Block and Schnaak doubt this statement and investigate in all directions. According to the forensic medicine results, massive violence was used against the young man, which raises doubts about an accident.

Bella Block wants to get an exact picture of the circumstances of death and goes to the sailing training ship on which Mühlstadt had served. There, however, she faces a wall of silence. The five cadets who had celebrated the evening with Mühlstedt claim that they were all too drunk to remember details. Bella Block realizes this is not true, and she is trying by all means to lure the young people out of the reserve. She hopes that Cadet Kati Brandner will most likely provide clues to what happened, but Brandner is obviously "sick with fear" and does not speak. Therefore she persuades the young inspector Emma Jensen to try to win Brandner's trust. This plan works, but even in this way she does not learn anything about what happened that night. The authorities of the naval command continue to block and clearly show that they have no interest in fully investigating the "unfortunate accident".

Bella Block finds out that Fritz Mühlstadt was gay . This finally opens up a motif. After painstaking research, the investigators find evidence that the cadet was raped by his comrades and then silenced. When asked about this, the five cadets deny having done anything to Mühlstadt. Ultimately, Kati Brandner gives the crucial clue about the first officer Thorsten Schmalbrink, who is also homosexual and had a brief relationship with the victim. Since Mühlstadt planned to out himself and thus also him, this may have been the motive for the crime. But Bella Block cannot prove this in the end.

criticism

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv said: “The film by Andreas Senn based on the book by Susanne Schneider not only relies on different value systems; it is also a celebration of the trades: top staff, fascinating the locations, imaginative and very atmospheric! ”“ And so - as always with this passionate seeker of truth - the question 'What happened that night?' more than just a criminally motivated Whodunit. But morality doesn't make a good crime thriller. "

In Quotenmeter.de Timo Nöthling wrote: "Even though it lacks a script by Susanne Schneider bit of ingenuity that are already mentioned genre clichés effort and the protagonist hardly possesses the rich diversity, a case to carry all, it is in front Thanks to the rest of the cast and the crew that 'Bella Block - The Most Beautiful Night of Life' became one of the better editions of the series. ”“ Who has so far less dealt with the crime series and wants to keep the soon-to-be-ending format in good memory , for whom it is worth switching on. "

The critics of the TV magazine TV Spielfilm gave the best possible rating (thumbs up) and found: “Hoger and Bock harmonize wonderfully, and the case with excellent young actors is developing into an exciting crime thriller that puts the concept of military honor to the test - and on remembered the tragic "Kadettin Jenny" case of 2008. "and drew as a conclusion:" The penultimate one? This is a pity…".
