Beno Udrih (born July 5, 1982 in Celje , SR Slovenia , Yugoslavia ) is a Slovenian basketball player who was active for most of his professional career in the North American NBA .

Player career

Europe

Udrih made his professional debut in the Slovenian second division in 1997/98 with KK Savinjski Hopsi Polzela. In 1999/00 he moved to the highest Slovenian class at Olimpija Ljubljana and was voted Slovenian Rookie of the Year 2000 . He played for Ljubljana until 2002. In the 2002/03 season he was active in Israel for Maccabi Tel Aviv . 2003/04 he played for Avtodor Saratov in the Super League Russia and Breil Milano in Italy's Serie A .

NBA

In the 2004 NBA Draft , Udrih was selected in 28th place by the San Antonio Spurs . On July 14, 2004, he signed a three-year contract with Spurs. In 2005 he played for the rookies in the Rookie Challenge at the NBA All-Star Game Weekend. In the 2004/05 and 2006/07 seasons he won the NBA championship with the Spurs. In a total of 207 regular season games for the team from San Antonio, Beno averaged 5.2 points and 1.8 assists in 13.0 minutes.

In October 2007 Udrih was given up by the Spurs to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for a 2008 second-round draft pick . However, Udrih was immediately released from the Wolves. On November 1st, Udrih found a new club for the 2007/08 season . The Sacramento Kings needed a point guard as Mike Bibby was injured. Udrih missed the first game of the season due to an injury that he suffered in the preseason with the Spurs. On November 10th he made his debut for the Kings. In the game against the Timberwolves he scored 9 points and 5 rebounds in 26 minutes. On November 26, Udrih led the Kings to a win against his old team. He posted a career high of 27 points and gave 5 assists against the San Antonio Spurs. Udrih hit 8 of 12 throws from the field and converted all 9 free throws.

June 2011 Udrih was transferred to the Milwaukee Bucks as part of an exchange between three teams of the NBA . Udrih played for the Bucks until February 2013 and was transferred from the Bucks to the Orlando Magic shortly before the end of the transfer deadline . For the 2013/14 season he moved to the New York Knicks as a free agent . Due to poor performance, Udrih was prematurely released from his contract in February 2014 by the Knicks.

From late February 2014 to November 2015 Udrih was under contract with the Memphis Grizzlies before he was transferred to the Miami Heat . This was followed by engagements with the Detroit Pistons and Žalgiris Kaunas in Lithuania.

National team

Udrih was a member of the Slovenian national basketball team . With this he took part in the European Basketball Championships in 2001 , 2003 and 2005 , as well as in the 2006 World Basketball Championships in Japan.
