Breitzbach is a part of the municipality of Herleshausen in the Werra-Meißner district in northern Hesse . The hamlet Berlitzgrube belongs to the district .

geography

Breitzbach is about five kilometers northwest of Herleshausen. There is no main road through the village , the federal highway 400 runs past the outskirts and ends not far from the village at the junction Wommen of the federal highway 4 . The stream of the same name flows through the village and flows into the Nesse , a tributary of the Werra , in the neighboring village of Nesselröden .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1545. Other old spellings of the place name are Bredtsbach and Breitzbich . From 1545 to 1824 Breitzbach belonged to the fiefdom of the Treusche von Buttlar. The hamlet of Berlitzgrube was first mentioned in 1433. It is still owned by the von Buttlar trust. Breitzbach belonged to the Sontra office from 1585 , to the Netra justice office from 1818 and to the Eschwege district from 1821 .

On December 1, 1970, as part of the regional reform in Hesse, the municipalities of Altefeld, Archfeld, Breitzbach, Herleshausen (with Frauenborn), Holzhausen, Markershausen, Nesselröden, Unhausen, Willershausen and Wommen voluntarily merged to form the larger municipality of Herleshausen.

In Breitzbach there are many well-preserved half-timbered buildings and a small chapel. Furthermore, there is a very old dancing linden tree with a trunk circumference of more than 6 m on the village green.
