The Bernbach is a creek in northern Baden-Württemberg of around 9 km length, which flows into the middle Brettach from the left and south at the Wiesental residential area of the municipality of Bretzfeld .

geography

Source and history

The left upper course of the Bernbach rises at about 470  m above sea level. NHN on the lower northeast slope of the Löwensteiner Horkenberg about 100 m beyond the route of the B 39 already on Bretzfeld - Unterheimbacher district and moves between the Waldgewannen Weilerischer Bernbach and Klösterlicher Bernbach in a forest valley rich in side blades initially to the northeast. After one and a half kilometers, shortly after it has merged with its shorter right upper course, it flows through the approximately 0.5 hectare large Bernsee and takes in the brook from the morning blade from the right and about east , which is over two kilometers and therefore about that long like the Bernbach up to there and its sources on the eaves west of Wüstenrot - Neuhütten . He then turns north.

Less than a kilometer afterwards, a two-kilometer-long left tributary flows from the left from the direction of the Gräfischer Berg ; The Hohle Stein , a natural rock bridge, spans the small valley heir of a side stream that tapers inconsistently from the right . A little later, from the right, there is an inflow from the Binsenschlägle that is only half as long . On the same side, after a further one and a half kilometers, a stream flows from Schalkbrunnen am Wüstenrot - Neuhüttener Steinknickle , which is again over two kilometers long. The next tributary, Hagenbach , also comes from the right, its longest strand arises on the northern outskirts of Neuhütten and flows almost three kilometers to its mouth at a forest path bridge. At this mouth, the floodplain is cleared for the first time, the surrounding mountains and slopes initially remain forested.

Soon afterwards the valley begins to widen, on the left the boundary rises up to the Herrenhölzle on the Seitenberg, which then ends in the spur of the Heimberg , on which the ruins of Hellmat Castle stand . In the valley below, Unterheimbach lies in front of a shorter right mountain spur. Opposite the Heimberg runs through the village at 247.1  m above sea level. NHN the four-kilometer Heimbach , the longest of the Bernbach tributaries, which arises a little north of the Hagenbach source. The first vineyards can be seen above the village on its southeast-oriented slope, at its feet the L 1090 pulls out of the Hagenbach valley into the Bernbach valley, which it then follows to the mouth.

The valley and the slopes are now free of forests, less than a kilometer downstream from the village's sewage treatment plant, the last tributary, the two kilometer long Steinbach, is the Bernbach. Shortly before Hahnenbusch, this leaves the edge mountains of the Swabian-Franconian Forest completely behind it. Less than a kilometer further down, it flows into the Wiesental farmstead at around 223.5  m above sea level. NHN from the left and south into the middle Brettach , which then leads its water northwest to the Kocher .

Catchment area

The largely forested catchment area of the Bernbach has an area of 17.9 km². It roughly covers the eastern half of the wooded northern promontory of Mainhardter Wald and Löwensteiner Mountains between Brettach in the northeast and Sulm in the west, which runs out south of Adolzfurt .

From the mouth in the north, the watershed runs close to the eaves of the Brettachtal valley to the southeast to Wüstenrot Berg. There it bends to the southwest and runs over the Neuhüttener Steinknickle to Bundesstraße 19 near Bärenbronn, on the other side the catchment area of the Dachsbach is located on the largest part , which is followed by the Fichtenberger Rot that takes it up. The border to the upper drainage area follows the B39 to the west from Bärenbronn and then rises to the Löwensteiner Horkenberg . To the south of it the Stangenbach drains on a short stretch to the "Spiegelberger" Lauter , to the west of it the Lauter itself competes on a little longer . A short stretch of watershed to the Sulm joins the western border, then two slightly longer ones to the Sulm - Schlierbach and Michelbach tributaries . The catchment area border then runs for a long time in alternating northerly directions towards the next downstream Brettach tributary, the Gabelbach , before it finally reaches the mouth again.
