Berthold Michael von Freydorf (born December 17, 1820 in Frankfurt am Main , † November 12, 1878 in Karlsruhe ) was a Baden , later Prussian officer , most recently a major general .

Life

He was a son of Baden's Minister of War Eugen von Freydorf (1781-1854) from his second marriage to Klementine, born von Stöcklern zu Grünholzek (born April 26, 1789 in Freiburg im Breisgau; † November 17, 1832 in Karlsruhe). Rudolf von Freydorf (1819–1882) was one of his older brothers.

Military career

After visiting the high school in Karlsruhe, Freydorf graduated from the war and artillery school there . On April 1, 1838, he was accepted as a gunner in the Baden artillery . There, on June 23, 1839, he was appointed Portepeefähnrich and in the following years Freydorf advanced to first lieutenant until November 4, 1844 . As such, he took part in the suppression of the Baden Revolution in 1848/49 . Freydorf was promoted to captain in 1852 , became a major in June 1860 and served Grand Duke Friedrich I as adjutant . In the meantime promoted to lieutenant colonel, Freydorf took part in the war against Prussia in 1866 . After the peace agreement, he rose to colonel and commander of the fortress artillery battalion in June 1869 .

In this position Freydorf led his nine, later ten batteries existing Association 1870-71 in the war against France in the Battle of Wörth and the sieges of Strasbourg and Belfort . His achievements were honored with the award of both classes of the Iron Cross , the Knight's Cross of the Military Karl Friedrich Order of Merit and the Commander II class of the Order of the Zähringer Lion with oak leaves and swords.

After the Peace of Frankfurt and the military convention with Prussia, Freydorf was taken over on July 15, 1871 as Colonel and Commander of Field Artillery Regiment No. 14 in the Prussian Army Association . On April 20 of the following year he was put up for disposition with the statutory pension and permission to wear the regimental uniform. On May 21, 1874 Freydorf received the character of major general.

He died unmarried and was in the family tomb of Frey village in the tomb Hall at the Karlsruhe main cemetery buried.
