Career
Billy Carroll was born in Toronto and played there in his youth for the St. Michael's Buzzers, among others . For the 1976/77 season he moved to the London Knights in the Ontario Major Junior Hockey League (OMJHL), the highest junior league in his home province. At the Knights, the center established itself as a regular scorer, recording more than one point per game in two of his three seasons. In the 1978/79 season he recorded 85 points scorer in 63 games, was consequently appointed to the OMJHL Second All-Star Team and then selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1979 in 38th position by the New York Islanders .
From 1979 Carroll was active in the organization of the Islanders, but was initially used in their farm team , the Indianapolis Checkers , in the Central Hockey League . After his performance had also convinced there, he made his debut in February 1981 for New York in the National Hockey League (NHL), where he earned a regular place in the sequence. The Islanders were the measure of all things in the NHL at the time, so they defended their title in the 1981 playoffs while Carroll won his first Stanley Cup . This was to be followed by two more successes in 1982 and 1983 , with the Canadian reaching his career best in the NHL with 29 points scorer in the 1981/82 season. After the Islanders lost to the Edmonton Oilers in the 1984 playoff finals and thus missed the fifth Stanley Cup in a row, his time in New York ended as the team left him unprotected in the NHL Waiver Draft .
As part of the Waiver Draft, Carroll was selected by the Edmonton Oilers in October 1984, so that he was once again committed by a reigning Stanley Cup winner. As a result, the attacker also managed to defend the title with the Oilers, so that he won his fourth and last Stanley Cup in the 1985 playoffs . With the beginning of the 1985/86 season he lost his regular place in Edmonton, so that he was used from now on with the farm team, the Nova Scotia Oilers , in the American Hockey League , before the Oilers in December 1985 in exchange for Bruce Eakin to the Detroit Red Wings transferred.
With the Red Wings, Carroll played his last almost one and a half years in the NHL before ending his active career after the 1986/87 season. In total, the center forward had played 393 NHL games and recorded 102 points scorer.
