Bilstein is a residential area belonging to Untermaubach in the municipality of Kreuzau in the North Rhine-Westphalian district of Düren .

location

Bilstein is located high above the Rur valley in the Rureifel in the North Eifel nature park on the red sandstone cliffs of the Hochkoppel. Neighboring towns are Untermaubach, Bogheim and Winden . From Bilstein there is a good view of the Düren-Jülich region and the narrow Rur valley.

history

Duke Reinhard von Jülich (1402–1423) gives Tilmann von Hemgenberg and his heirs his farm Bilstein tax-free as well as the right to get firewood from the ducal forest for an annual fee of 15 Malter oats and an annual delivery of 15 wagons of fertilizer to the ducal vineyards to winds in long lease.

Reorganization

As a result of the reorganization of the Aachen area ( Aachen law ), the municipalities of Obermaubach-Schlagstein and Untermaubach, the district of Langenbroich from the municipality of Hürtgenwald and the districts of Schneidhausen and Welk from the municipality of Lendersdorf were incorporated into the municipality of Kreuzau with effect from January 1, 1972 - the Niederau community came to Düren.

St. Christian Chapel

The St. Christian chapel was built in 1896 as a neo-Gothic hall church and belongs to the parish of St. Brigida in Untermaubach .

The municipal road from Untermaubach to Bergheim runs through the village . Buses of the Dürener Kreisbahn take line 201 through the town.

Others

The elevated tank for the water supply of the city of Düren is located in Bilstein . The drinking water is pumped into the container by the Obermaubach waterworks of the Düren municipal utility and then shoots into the Düren water supply network with a natural gradient.
