The Diocese of Verapaz, Cobán ( lat. : Dioecesis verae Pacis ) is an in Guatemala situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Cobán . It includes the departments of Alta Verapaz and Baja Verapaz .
history
Pope Benedict XV founded the Apostolic Vicariate Verapaz and Petén on July 27, 1921 from cession of territory of the Archdiocese of Guatemala . On January 14, 1935, it was made a diocese and received its current name. It lost part of its territory on March 10, 1951 to the Apostolic Administration of El Peten .
