The Diocese of Zacapa ( lat. : Dioecesis Zacapensis ) is in Guatemala situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Zacapa . It includes the departments of Chiquimula and Zacapa .

history

Pope Pius XII founded the Diocese of Zacapa on March 10, 1951 from cessions of territory from the Archdiocese of Guatemala . On September 16, 1956, it lost part of its territory to the Territorial Prelature of Santo Cristo de Esquipulas, and on April 30, 1968, it ceded another part to the Izabal Apostolic Administration .

Because of the Bull Qui pro munere John Paul II , it has shared the bishop with the territorial prelature of Santo Cristo de Esquipulas aeque principaliter since June 24, 1986 .
