The Roman Catholic Diocese of Huehuetenango ( lat. : Dioecesis Gerontopolitanus ) is in Guatemala situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Huehuetenango . It includes the Huehuetenango department .

history

Pope John XXIII founded the territorial prelature Huehuetenango on July 22, 1961 from cessions of territory of the diocese of San Marcos , which was subordinated to the archdiocese of Guatemala as a suffragan .

On December 23, 1967, she was raised to a diocese. On February 13, 1996 it became part of the ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Los Altos Quetzaltenango-Totonicapán .
