The Diocese of San Marcos ( lat. : Dioecesis Sancti Marci in Guatimala ) is in Guatemala situated Roman Catholic diocese , based in San Marcos . It includes the department of San Marcos .

history

Pope Pius XII founded the diocese of San Marcos on March 10, 1951 from cessions of territory of the diocese Quetzaltenango , which was subordinate to the archdiocese of Guatemala as a suffragan .

On July 22, 1961, it lost part of the territory to the Huehuetenango Territorial Prelature . On February 13, 1996 it became part of the ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Los Altos Quetzaltenango-Totonicapán .
