The Roman Catholic diocese al-Ubayyid ( Latin : Dioecesis Elobeidensis , Arabic الأبيض al-Ubayyid ; Alternative spelling El Obeid , more rarely El-Obeid or El Obied ) includes the Sudanese states of Shamal Kurdufan , Dschanub Kurdufan , Gharb Kurdufan , Shamal Darfur , Dschanub Darfur and Gharb Darfur . It is named after the capital of the state of Shamal Kurdufan al-Ubayyid .
history
On May 10, 1960, the Apostolic Vicariate al-Ubayyid was founded from territory of the Apostolic Vicariate Khartoum . On December 12, 1974, the Apostolic Vicariate was elevated to a diocese and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Khartoum as a suffragan .
