Björn Bombis (born September 30, 1982 in Berlin , GDR ) is a German ice hockey striker who has been under contract with the ESC Wedemark Scorpions in the ice hockey league since December 2016 .
Career
Björn Bombis grew up in East Berlin and, since his father was not a member of the SED, was not allowed to play at EHC Dynamo Berlin . Instead, he trained in a pure amateur club before his family in the summer of 1989 from the GDR emigrating and settled in Hanover. From then on he trained in the junior staff of the EC Hannover . Since he wanted to train more than once a week, he moved to the Eisbären Berlin sports boarding school at the age of 12 .
About the national performance center in Weiden he came to 1. EV Weiden , for which he made his debut in the Oberliga Süd during the 1999/2000 season . At the same time he played for the same club in the Czech junior extra league. At the end of the season he was the top scorer of his team, so that some Czech professional teams became aware of bombs.
Before the following season he took part in a training camp of HC Plzeň , with which he took part in the Zepter Cup , a Czech preparatory tournament . The management of HC Plzeň offered him a three-year contract; Bombis turned down this offer and instead played for HC Energie Karlovy Vary in the U20 junior extra league, but also received appearances with the professional team in the extra league . In the summer of 2001 the club offered him a contract for the extra league, but Bombis ultimately decided to return to Germany. He signed a contract with the Freiburg Wolves , because he expected more ice age in the 2nd Bundesliga .
In the 2nd Bundesliga, he completed two seasons for Wölfe Freiburg between 2001 and 2003 and established himself within the team. Due to his strong style of play in the 2002/03 season, he received a contract with the Hannover Scorpions from the DEL in summer 2003 , for which he scored 15 points in 55 games of the season. A year later, he moved within the DEL to the Nürnberg Ice Tigers , where he confirmed his previous year's performance. He also played three games for EV Weiden in the 2nd Bundesliga.
In the summer of 2005 Björn Bombis was signed by the Hamburg Freezers , but left the club after 30 DEL games. Since he had complained about too few missions, his contract was terminated by mutual agreement. He returned to the Hannover Scorpions, with whom he reached the semi-finals in the 2006 play-offs . Before the following season he was sent by Hans Zach with a production license to the Scorpions farm team, REV Bremerhaven . Since he saw no chance of returning to the Scorpions, he first wanted to find a new DEL club, but then decided to stay in Bremerhaven. He spent the entire 2006/07 season with the Fischtown Pinguins and scored 13 goals and 24 assists in the main round. With the penguins, Bombis failed in the play-off quarter-finals at EHC Munich , scoring five points in six play-off games.
Due to the way he played, he was signed by the Krefeld Pinguinen shortly after the 2006/07 season . Due to a cruciate ligament injury at the end of October 2007, Bombis missed most of the 2007/08 season and only completed a total of twelve DEL missions for the penguins.
His contract, which ran until 2008, was not renewed, whereupon he moved to the Schwenninger Wild Wings in the 2nd Bundesliga. Bombis suffered another cruciate ligament tear early in the season, which is why the season ended prematurely for him. In the following years he played for various clubs in the 2nd Bundesliga. In 2012 he decided to return to the Fischtown Pinguins in Bremerhaven, although their league membership was still open.
