Björn Franken (born April 19, 1979 in Siegburg ) is a German politician of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU). He has been a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia since June 1, 2017 .

Life

Björn Franken was born in 1979 as the son of a farmer in Siegburg and grew up in Ruppichteroth .

He is married and has three children.

School and education

From 1985 to 1989 he attended the Schönenberg primary school and then the Ruppichteroth secondary school. In 1995 he switched to the higher commercial school in Siegburg , where he obtained the technical college entrance qualification in 1997 . He then did a two-year apprenticeship as an office communication clerk with the CDU / CSU parliamentary group in the German Bundestag in Bonn and at the Bonn-Duisdorf vocational school . From 1999 to 2000 he was doing military service .

In 2001, he began a study of economics with a focus on B2B marketing and human resource management at the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences in Sankt Augustin and completed in 2005 a semester abroad in Indonesia .

Professional background

After his studies, he worked in the human resources department of a telecommunications company in Bonn and from 2008 until he moved into the state parliament in 2017 in a managerial position at a subsidiary of a retail group in Cologne .

Volunteering

In addition to offices within the party, he is involved in the supervisory board of the non-profit housing association for the Rhein-Sieg district . Since March 2019, he has succeeded Andrea Milz as chairman of the Bonn / Rhein-Sieg district association of the German Forest Protection Association .

Political party

Björn Franken was chairman of the Junge Union Ruppichteroth from 2000 to 2008 . Since 2001 he has been a member of the CDU, for which he has been a member of the local council in Ruppichteroth since 2004 . 2014 he was appointed to the council elected the Rhein-Sieg district, where it is treasurer of the CDU parliamentary group.

MP

For the state elections on May 14, 2017 , Franken ran as a direct candidate in the constituency of Rhein-Sieg-Kreis I and clearly won it with 43.9% of the votes.

In the state parliament he is a member of the committee for economy, energy and regional planning, the integration committee and the committee for digitization and innovation. He is also the secretary and honorary officer of the CDU parliamentary group.
