The Town of Black Earth is one of 34 Towns in Dane County in the US -amerikanischen State Wisconsin . In 2010 the Town of Black Earth had 483 inhabitants.
Town has a fundamentally different meaning in Wisconsin than in the rest of the English-speaking area. Rather, it corresponds to the usual townships in the other US states , which form the next smaller administrative unit after the county .

The Town of Black Earth is located in southern Wisconsin, in the northwest suburb of the capital Madison . The intersection of the three states of Wisconsin, Iowa and Minnesota, located on the Mississippi , is around 150 km west-northwest; to Illinois it is around 75 km south.
The coordinates of the geographic center of the Town of Black Earth are 43 ° 07'46 "north latitude and 89 ° 46'44" west longitude. It extends over an area of 44.8 km². In the east of the Town of Black Earth is the independent community Black Earth . This is completely enclosed by the town without belonging to it.

The US Highway 14 leading into northwest-southeast direction by the Town of Black Earth. Wisconsin State Highway 78 runs partially congruent . In addition, the County Highways F leads through the area of the town. All other roads are subordinate country roads or partly unpaved roads.
A railway line of the Wisconsin and Southern Railroad , a regional ( Class II ) freight transport company, runs parallel to US 14 through the southwest of the Town of Black Earth .
The nearest airport is Dane County Regional Airport in Madison (around 35 km east).

According to the 2010 census , the Town of Black Earth had 483 people in 189 households. The population density was 10.8 inhabitants per square kilometer. Statistically, 2.56 people lived in each of the 189 households.
Ethnically, the population consisted only of whites with five exceptions. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.7 percent of the population.
22.6 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 61.3 percent were between 18 and 64 and 16.1 percent were 65 years or older. 47.8 percent of the population was female.
