The Interstate 94 limits the area Town of Cottage Grove to the north; Interstates 39 and 90, which run on the same route, touch the town in the extreme southwest corner. US Highways 12 and 18, which share the same route, run through the south of the Town of Cottage Grove. All other roads are subordinate country roads or partly unpaved roads.
A branch line of the Union Pacific Railroad runs through the east of the Town of Cottage Grove . By the West leads Glacial Drumlin State Trail , one on a former railway line of the Chicago and North Western Railway running rail trail for hikers and cyclists. In winter, the hiking trail can also be used with snowmobiles.
The nearest airport is Dane County Regional Airport in Madison (20 km north-northwest).
