The Town of Sun Prairie is located in southern Wisconsin, in the northeastern suburb of the capital Madison . The intersection of the three states of Wisconsin, Iowa and Minnesota, located on the Mississippi , is about 200 km to the west-northwest; to Illinois it is around 90 km south.

The Interstate 94 limits the area Town of Sun Prairie to the south; Wisconsin State Highway 19 runs through the north of the town in a west-east direction . In addition, the county highways N and T run through the town. All other roads are subordinate country roads or partly unpaved roads.
A railway line of the Wisconsin and Southern Railroad , a regional ( Class II ) freight transport company, runs through the north of the Town of Sun Prairie in a west-east direction . The only passenger in the region is from Chicago circulating to the West Coast Empire Builder from Amtrak , which stops in Madison.
