Blumenthal ( Low German Blomendol ) is a district of Burweg in the Lower Saxon municipality of Oldendorf-Himmelpforten in the Stade district .

Geography and transport links

Geographical location

The community lies between Kranenburg in the west and Burweg and Bossel in the east in the Marsh of the Oste on the edge of the Geest . To the south lies Oldendorf and to the north on the other bank of the Oste Hechthausen .

The northeastern part of Blumenthal on Kreisstraße 66 is called Stellberg . The Krughörne desert is also in the Blumenthals district .

The water from the marshes flows over a stream and the Blumenthaler Schleusenfleet into the Oste.

Blumenthal is a street village on County Road 82. This joins County Road 66, which leads to Federal Road 73 after Burweg . In the south it continues as Bosseler Straße via Bossel to Oldendorf. A smaller side road also leads to Oldendorf.

Blumenthal is on the Lower Saxony Milky Way .

The next rail connection is in Himmelpforten to the Niederelbebahn .

history

Prehistory and early history

In 2012, a lake from the Holstein warm period (approx. 325,000 years ago) was found in the local sand pit seven meters below ground . The lake has been archaeologically examined. Ancient stone tools were found there.

Krughorns

The Oste makes a bow between Hechthausen and Kranenburg , there was the place Krughörne (Low German Kroghörn ), which belonged to Blumenthal. Here, in the Middle Ages, an inn ( Krog in Low German ) with a ferry service was set up on a Wurt . There was also a brick factory nearby .

Krughörne was first mentioned in a document in 1715 in a contract between Jürgen Hagenah and his son Jürgen Friedrich Hagenah; the contract is now in the Stade State Archives (ARL 11 No. 22). Krughörne was first noted on a map in 1768 at the Kurhannoversche Landesaufnahme . Archaeological finds go back to the 15th century.

The jug went desolate at the end of the 19th century, the exact period is not known. It is certain that the place still existed in 1874. Reasons for abandoning the jug were the peripheral location and increasing insignificance for traffic over the Oste: In 1856 the Chaussee between Cuxhaven and Hamburg (today's B 73) was completed and in 1881 the Niederelbebahn between Cuxhaven and Harburg .

From 2015 to 2017, the position of the desert was archaeologically investigated, and several archaeological finds were made.

Administrative history

During the French period , Blumenthal belonged to Mairie Blumenthal in the canton of Himmelpforten in the Kingdom of Westphalia from 1810/11 and from 1811 to 1814 under Napoleon directly to the French Empire and there to Mairie Oldendorf in the canton of Himmelpforten.

Originally part of the village (1791: 11 houses) belonged to the Himmelpforten monastery district in the office of the same name ; the greater part (1791: 62 houses) formed a patrimonial court that belonged to the Marschalck family. That was dissolved in 1813. Afterwards the whole place belonged to the office of Himmelpforten.

After 1885, Blumenthal belonged to the newly formed Stade district , which was added to the current Stade district in 1932 .

The previously independent community of Blumenthal was incorporated into Burweg on July 1, 1972 as part of the community reform.

Blumenthal is evangelical-Lutheran and belongs to the parish of the Church of St. Petri on the Horst in Burweg .

The Church of St. Michael in Bremervörde is responsible for the few Catholics , which has been part of the Heilig Geist parish in Stade since December 1, 2010 .
