The province of Bongará is one of the seven provinces that make up the Amazonas region in the Andes in northern Peru . The administrative center is Jumbilla , a village at around 1,935 meters above sea level. The province was founded on December 26, 1870 and has an area of ​​2,869.65 km². The province had 25,637 inhabitants at the 2017 census. Ten years earlier the population was 27,465.

Geographical location

The province of Bongará borders in the north on the province Condorcanqui and the Loreto region , in the east on the San Martín region , in the south on the province Chachapoyas and in the west on the provinces Luya and Utcubamba .

  • Gocta: In 2005, the third highest waterfall in the world, the Gocta, was discovered in the province of Bongara near the village of Cocachimba .
