Bonifay is a city and also the county seat of Holmes County in the US state of Florida with 2793 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Bonifay is about 140 km west of Tallahassee and 160 km east of Pensacola .
history
The railroad age in Bonifay began in 1883 with the opening of the Pensacola and Atlantic Railroad . They created a continuous rail link between Pensacola and Jacksonville .
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the then 2793 inhabitants were distributed over 1326 households. The population density was 297.1 inh / km². 84.8% of the population identified themselves as white , 10.0% as African-American , 0.9% as Native American and 0.9% as Asian Americans . 0.8% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.7% to several ethnic groups. 2.4% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 33.1% of all households lived in 33.6% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 60.5% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.41 people and the average family size was 3.05 people.
27.9% of the population were younger than 20 years, 21.1% were 20 to 39 years old, 24.4% were 40 to 59 years old, and 26.5% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 41 years. 45.9% of the population were male and 54.1% were female.
The median annual income was $ 24,837, with 24.3% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 95.48% of the population, 3.98% spoke Spanish and 0.53% spoke German .

Bonifay is crossed by Interstate 10 , US Highway 90 ( SR 10 ), and Florida State Road 79 . The Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport is located 75 km south of the city.

The crime rate in 2010 was 107 points (US average: 266 points) in the low range. There was one rape, three assaults, six break-ins, 22 thefts, one car theft and one arson.
