Ponce de Leon is a city in Holmes County in the US state of Florida with 598 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

The place is named after the Spanish conquistador Juan Ponce de León . Pensacola is 140 km and Tallahassee is 160 km away. Bonifay is around 25 km to the east and it is around 65 km to the Gulf coast .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the 598 inhabitants at that time were distributed over 290 households. The population density was 46.7 inh / km². 93.5% of the population identified themselves as whites , 1.8% as African American , 1.0% as Indians and 0.3% as Asian Americans . 1.2% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.2% to several ethnic groups. 3.0% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 30.9% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 29.7% of all households. 64.2% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.43 people and the average family size was 3.06 people.

27.7% of the population were younger than 20 years, 23.1% were 20 to 39 years old, 27.8% were 40 to 59 years old, and 21.4% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 39 years. 47.3% of the population were male and 52.7% were female.

The median annual income was $ 27,228, with 8.1% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 95.47% of the population and 4.53% spoke Spanish .

Interstate 10 , US Highway 90 ( SR 10 ) and Florida State Road 81 run through Ponce de Leon . A freight railway runs through the city. The Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport is located approximately 65 km south of the city.
