Career

Nieves first played between 2010 and 2012 at the Kent School , a high school in the US state of Connecticut . Towards the end of the 2011/12 season, the striker then completed a few appearances for the Indiana Ice in the United States Hockey League before enrolling at the University of Michigan . He had previously been selected in the second round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft in 59th place by the New York Rangers from the National Hockey League . At the University of Michigan, the attacker ran for the next four years up to spring 2016 while studying for the university's ice hockey team, which was active in the Big Ten Conference , a division in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . With the team he won the Big Ten championship at the end of his last season .

After completing college season, Nieves signed a professional contract with the New York Rangers at the end of March 2016, who used him for their farm team , the Hartford Wolf Pack , in the American Hockey League at the end of the 2015/16 season . There the center forward reached five scorer points in eight missions and found himself in the Wolf Pack squad at the beginning of the 2016/17 season . His achievements in the AHL ultimately led to his being appointed to the New York NHL squad for the first time in mid-November, where he made his debut.

International

Nieves played for his home country at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2011 . There he reached fifth place with the team. In four tournament appearances, he scored one goal and prepared three more.
