Borut Božič (born August 8, 1980 in Ljubljana ) is a Slovenian racing cyclist .
Career
Borut Božič is considered a sprint specialist. He started his career in 2004 with the Slovenian cycling team Perutnina Ptuj . In the following years u. a. several victories in sections of stage races , two overall victories in the Istrian Spring Trophy and one in the Tour de la Region Wallonne . In 2008 and 2012 he was the Slovenian road champion. His first victory in a UCI ProTour race was the 2009 Tour of Poland . In the sprint of the peloton on the sixth stage of the Vuelta a España in 2009, he won his most important international bike race to date.
In the course of the doping investigation by the Public Prosecutor of Padua at the end of 2014, he was suspected of having been a customer of the controversial sports medicine specialist Michele Ferrari .
As part of the investigation into the "Operation Aderlass" involving the German sports doctor Mark Schmidt , Božič was again suspected of violating anti-doping regulations in May 2019.
