The central bus station in Bottrop is the central hub of the local transport lines in Bottrop and is located in the city center of Bottrop on Berliner Platz. It is called Bottrop ZOB Berliner Platz by the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr and operator Vestische Straßenbahnen . 20,000 people use the entry and exit options every day.
Location and structure
The ZOB is located at the main traffic intersection in the city center and connects to the northern end of the pedestrian zone. The ZOB is attached to the street like an egg and protrudes into the pedestrian zone, so that the exit faces the city. The ZOB has 17 bus platforms. In the vicinity of the ZOB there is a large supermarket with a parking garage.
The bus station was last extensively rebuilt in 2009 and 2010. Since then he has had covered bus platforms and a DFI system on every bus platform. During the renovation, the horse market served as a temporary central bus station. Before the renovation, it looked like the photo.

The ZOB is approached by the following lines. With the exception of lines SB29, 186, 291 and NE16, these lines are operated by the Vestische trams . The lines SB16, SB29, 186, 261, 262, 291, 294 and NE16 connect to the main station . The SB91 line connects the Bottrop central bus station every 10 minutes with the Neue Mitte Oberhausen and the Oberhausen main train station and thus provides the primary connection to the Rhine .
Bottrop Mitte S-Bahn station
The Bottrop Central Station is located on the outskirts of the city, can be linked with only part of the bus lines and is even poorly integrated into the city of Bottrop. The city administration and the Rhein-Ruhr S-Bahn therefore planned an underground development under Berliner Platz in the 1970s. This provided for two routes, the first from Duisburg via the Bottrop ZOB to Gelsenkirchen and the second from Essen via Bottrop to Gladbeck and on to Marl. In this context, the ZOB was equipped with a tunnel system in the 1970s , which should enable the connection of the underground connection to the S-Bahn at a later date. Both routes were gradually discarded. The last plan was to build a stripped-down S-Bahn line from the main train station to the ZOB Berliner Platz in order to connect the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn in the form of the S9 line directly to Bottrop city center. The city of Bottrop and the S-Bahn Rhein-Ruhr rejected this construction project for reasons of cost, especially since most of the trains that do not end in Bottrop would only stop at the main station for operational reasons. Because the intention was also temporarily to extend the 20-minute intervals of the S9 line to Gladbeck West , this construction project was no longer realized. In the course of the redesign of the central bus station, the already completed tunnel system for connecting the S-Bahn to the central bus station was demolished.
