history

Brand was first mentioned in 1258. The noble Hermann von Branda was given as a witness in a contract between the Würzburg bishop Iring and the Henneberg count in Hersfeld. Hermann von Branda takes his name after his place of origin. The place Brand has been around since the 13th century. In 1936, however, the theology professor and historian Konrad Lübeck assumed that Brand was first mentioned in a document as early as 1170. In his historical investigations "Alte Ortschaften des Fuldaer Land" he writes "Es [Brand] first encountered it in a document from Abbot Burchard von Fulda from the year 1170, in which he stated that he also used this to endow the new hospital in Fulda 'Hadebrandes' village " . Since then, research has dealt more intensively with the place name than Lübeck, and Hadebrandes cannot refer to the place Brand. Hadebrandes is the genitive of Hadebrand, a Germanic given name. A common first name in the area in the Middle Ages. Numerous places around Brand u. a. Vindelines, Hiltriches, Wiggeres, Sigifrides, Sigimarshausen, Ruperechtsrode (today: Findlos , Hilders , Wickers , Seiferts , Simmershausen , Rupsroth ) were named after their first names. It is now known about the Hadebrands settlement that it was carried out according to plan in the High Middle Ages. It was operated by the Fulda abbot or a nobleman , whereby the name of the leader of the settler group was retained in the place name. There are numerous names ending in -s or -z in the Fulda region. This characteristic ending in -s is missing in Brandau. Another indication that Hadebrand cannot be Brandau is the testimony of Albert von Branda in 1269. In the histories about abbot murder , written in Latin, he is given as Albertus Brandauus or Albertus de Brandowe . The names of the place names Brandau, Brandowe and Branda do not go back to a given name, but have their origin in the name of the brook Brand. Brand is surrounded by various bodies of water. a. the Krimmling, Schlicht and the Gifs. Brand does not get its name from a person, but from its geographical location, because historically it was first the streams and then the individual settlements got their name. In the area around Brand there are several places that are named after a brook. B. Lütter , Großenlüder , Niederbieber and Großentaft .

In the Turkish tax register of the abbey of Fulda from 1605 the place is mentioned under the name Brantt with 7 families.

On December 31, 1971, the previously independent community of Brand was incorporated into the community of Hilders.

Infrastructure

Brand has a children's playground, a sports field and a village community center Schlichthaus. The clubs are the Reulbach-Brand Music Club, the Brand 1975 eV Sports Club and the Brand Voluntary Fire Brigade . There is no permanent carnival club, but the traditional "City of Brand Ball" is celebrated on several evenings each year.
