history

The castle, built in the 12th century and first documented in 1170, is said to have been the family seat of the Lords of Eberstein . The Ebersteiner acted as robber barons , which led to the fact that the Bishop of Würzburg , Berthold II. Von Sternberg , and the Prince Abbot of Fulda , Bertho IV. , Ordered the destruction of Eberstein Castle on a court day in 1282.

In 1454 the name "Tannenfels" came into being when the desert belonged to the lords of the Tann as feudal men of Fulda. In 1557 only a shield wall could be seen.

In 1830 the ruin was demolished. Parts of the surrounding wall with a clearly recognizable entrance to the castle, the stump of the keep and smaller wall sections have been preserved . The castle was surrounded by a moat that was still clearly visible, and on the entrance side even with a double rampart.
