Uttrichshausen Castle

The castle Uttrichshausen is one of two dialed medieval castles in Uttrichshausen , the oldest district of the municipality Kalbach in the district of Fulda in Hesse .

Because it was not on a hill, the medieval castle complex in Mitteldorf was surrounded by a water-bearing ring ditch for protection , which was fed by the springs of the Börnberg and had its drainage in the Schmidtwasser. The castle seat emerged from fortified houses and courtyards in the 13th century and belonged to the Fulda Abbey . As sovereign, the Fulda abbot gave his local property for a time in exchange for service and loyalty as a fief . Over the centuries, fiefs were members of almost all important knight and noble families in the area. The gentlemen von Küchenmeister made the start around 1300. The first useful reference to the residents of the moated castle can be found in the coat of arms of the Gothic door garment from 1486. It is the coat of arms of those von Ebersberg called von Weyhers . In Curt Till von Berlepsch's inheritance book from 1583, Georg Friedrich von Tann's house is mentioned. In 1602 he referred to it as the castle seat. The Thirty Years' War caused severe damage in the period that followed. It was only Ludwig von und zu Mansbach around 1687 that restored part of the formerly Danish castle.

The aboveground remainder of the moated castle was gradually razed to the ground between 1982 and 1983 and sacrificed to commerce, although the German monument authorities vehemently demanded that the cultural monument be preserved . A small "memorial" was built with sandstones from the moated castle, which today tells of the once proud moated castle.

A hundred meters south-east of the older moated castle in Uttrichshausen in the direction of Motten , another somewhat larger castle complex was built a little later in the Anberg settlement area, called Anberg Castle from 1392 .
