Buñol ( Spanish Buñol , Catalan Bunyol [ buˈɲɔl ]) is a municipality in the province of Valencia , in the east of Spain with 9,408 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019).

Buñol is located about 38 kilometers west of Valencia along the Bunyol River .

Nearby, the Madrid – Levante high-speed line crosses under the Sierra de La Cabrera with the Cabrera tunnel .

Regular events

The Tomatina is a festival that takes place every year on the Wednesday of the last week of August, during the Tomatina there are over 40,000 people in the small town.

The 2004 Tomatina of the Year was included in the Guinness Book of Records .
