Burgstall Neuhof

The Burgstall Neuhof is an abandoned castle in the Neuhof district of Taunusstein in the Rheingau-Taunus district ( Hesse ).

description

The castle, which was built by the Counts of Nassau , presumably as a fortified courtyard, was first mentioned in 1167. In 1564, when it was handed over as the castle and village of Neuhof by Count Philipp II of Nassau-Idstein to his brother Balthasar, it was destroyed in the Thirty Years War and in 1708 a new house was built on the castle stables , which no longer show any remains.

Presumably the castle served to strengthen Nassau rulership structures and to control the roads from Wiesbaden to Limburg , today's federal highway 417 , and today's B 275 from Idstein to Bad Schwalbach .

After Vogel, the castle took the place of the post house built in 1643, which in 1843 was still called the "castle". According to the Neuhofer Chronik, it was more likely in the area of the later Bienzle and Klink properties.
Today the hotel "Zur Burg" is located on the site of the castle.
