Hattenheim Castle

history

It can be assumed that before the construction of the residential tower, the castle consisted of a smaller fortified complex and that the castle was founded around 1118. The castle was probably surrounded by an irrigated moat , which the nearby Leimersbach flowing past could have served for irrigation.

The owners were originally the "nobles of Hattenheim". Only with the transfer of the castle into the ownership of Baron Langwerth von Simmern in 1411 are the ownership and further development of the castle secured. For around 300 years, Hattenheim Castle served the Barons Langwerth von Simmern as their home and headquarters. In 1711 the family moved into the Stockheimer Hof in Eltville. In the following centuries the entire castle complex was left to decay. In popular parlance, people no longer spoke of the castle, but of "building" with little respect.

In 1979, the Hattenheim Castle and Beautification Association took over. V. the castle in heritable building lease from the barons Langwerth von Simmern, who are still owners. Since then, the castle complex has been used for events and celebrations, with the castle festival being of supra-local importance.

investment

The castle has a four-storey residential tower , which has a dwarf building (between, obsolete = transverse) with stepped gables and with its high chimney protrudes far above the roofs of Hattenheim.
