However, his greatest career success celebrated Hulse in the service of the Albany River Council by winning the Calder Cup of the American Hockey League in 1995. Since 2004 he is married to the actress Gena Lee Nolin .
Career
Hulse played during his junior years first until 1991 in the Alberta Junior Hockey League , before he joined the Portland Winter Hawks from the Western Hockey League until 1993 . During this time he was selected in the third round of the NHL Entry Draft in 1992 in 66th place by the New Jersey Devils from the National Hockey League .
The organization of the Devils brought the defender for the 1993/94 season in the roster of their farm team , the Albany River Rats from the American Hockey League . With these he won the Calder Cup in the 1994/95 season . In the course of the following game year, Hulse made his NHL debut for New Jersey, but was previously still mainly active for the River Rats. In February 1996, after he had played eight times for the Devils in the NHL, he was finally transferred with Tommy Albelin and Jocelyn Lemieux to the Calgary Flames , who in return gave Phil Housley and Dan Keczmer to New Jersey. In Calgary, the defender made the breakthrough and established himself in the Flames' squad in the following four seasons. In March 2000, Hulse was given a third-round vote in the NHL Entry Draft 2001 in exchange for the Russian Sergei Kriwokrassow to the Nashville Predators .
In Nashville, Hulse did not appear until the beginning of the 2000/01 season after suffering an ankle injury the previous year, and remained loyal to the young franchise for three years. After his contract expired, he moved to the Phoenix Coyotes in the summer of 2003 . There he spent the 2003/04 season . Due to the complete failure of the 2004/05 NHL season due to the lockout , Hulse had become dispensable due to the new NHL Collective Bargaining Agreement . In October 2005 the Coyotes gave it to the Columbus Blue Jackets with Michael Rupp and Jason Chimera and in return secured the services of Geoff Sanderson and Tim Jackman . In Columbus, however, Hulse could not prevail and was transferred again at the end of February 2006 when he returned to Calgary in exchange for Cam Severson . After he took part in the Carolina Hurricanes training camp in the summer of 2006 , but could not earn a contract there, the defensive specialist ended his active career at the age of 32.
