Callejon ( span. Callejón "narrow street," spoken [ ka.ʎexon ]) is a five-member German metalcore - band , which was founded in 2002. Her texts are almost without exception in German .

history

Callejon was founded in 2002. The first release was a self-titled demo recording in 2003. This was followed by the Chronos EP on February 7, 2005 and the debut album Willkommen im Beerdigungscafé on July 7, 2006, both of which were released on My Favorite Toy Records from Mainz. The line-up was completed by the end of 2007 with Thomas Buschhausen and Thorsten Becker.

On February 10, 2007, the band started in Oberhausen on a three-week tour to promote the LP Willkommen im Beerdigungscafé. In September 2007 a contract was signed with Edition TAKK , which is linked to SONY / ATV Music Publishing Germany. The EP Fauler Zauber Dunkelherz was advertised as part of the 2007 winter tour . Then drummer Sven Wasel was replaced by Bodo Stricker.

In May 2008 the band signed a contract with Nuclear Blast . The 13-song label debut Zombieactionhauptquartier was produced by Eike Freese in Hamburg and released on November 28, 2008. On the album is the song Porn from Spain (pun reference to the band Born from Pain ), in which Nico from KIZ raps as a guest musician . Orkus magazine named the band Newcomer of the Month for Zombie Action Headquarters . In the review it was said that the album combined "the madness of die ärzte" with a heavy metal groove "and was" a wonderfully lawless listening pleasure ". In connection with this album, the band chose Zombiecore as a style name. This term mainly refers to the content and texts for which the band was inspired by zombie literature and films, but also by the atmosphere of a building that was perceived as creepy, in which the band was housed during the recording in Hamburg. Except for an artist's apartment, this building has been empty since the 1980s.

On March 26th 2010 the next album Videodrom could be heard on Myspace. It rose to number 31 in the German album charts . The inspiration for the album of the film served Videodrome of David Cronenberg . For the recordings, like in Willkommen im Funeralcafé and Lazy Magic Darkheart , the producer Andi Vieten was used.

Bassist Sebastian Gallinat died on August 11, 2010 at the age of 26. More precise information on death was not given.

In 2010 the band separated from the previous label Nuclear Blast without giving any further reasons. In the summer of 2011, Callejon completed the “This tour affects you” tour. During the tour and at various festival appearances in 2011, Christoph Koterzina (Kotsche) represented Thomas Buschhausen on guitar. At the beginning of July 2011, Christoph Koterzina took Thomas Buschhausen's place, as he was unable to continue playing his part as a guitarist for health reasons. In the Metal Hammer special edition published on August 24, 2011 for the 20th anniversary of Metallica's black album , Callejon covered the song Wherever I May Roam . On June 15, 2012 the album "Blitzkreuz" was released. It entered the German album charts at number nine, marking the group's most successful release to date.

On November 10, 2012, the group broke off their concert in the Live Music Hall in Cologne-Ehrenfeld after parts of the ceiling had fallen on viewers. Eleven people were slightly injured. The concert should be rescheduled. The gig was part of the “Blitzkreuz” tour , which should have ended that evening. On January 11, 2013, the band released the cover album Man Spricht Deutsch under the pseudonym Kallejon .

On March 1, 2013, the group was seen on On Tape on ZDFkultur . There the concert that the group had given the previous day was broadcast again. On March 25, 2013, Callejon were part of the program Circus HalliGalli , where they had various short appearances during the show. The group played at several well-known festivals including the With Full Force and the Wacken Open Air . In February 2014, the band supported Coldrain for Bullet for My Valentine on their European tour. The concerts took place in Luxembourg , Germany , France , the Netherlands , Italy , Austria , Switzerland , the Czech Republic , Poland , Sweden , Norway , Finland and Russia . However, the group was not seen in Russia or Scandinavia .

In mid-January 2015, Blitzkreuz's follow-up album Wir sind Angst was released . In February and March 2015 followed a Germany tour with Annisokay and Vitja , which included 15 concerts. On this tour the band recorded their first live album; it is titled Live in Cologne and was released on November 27, 2015. It was recorded on March 6, 2015. In 2018, Callejon released four cover EPs of four rap / hip-hop songs: Palmen aus Plastik (Bonez MC, RAF Camora), From Party to Party (SXTN), Was du Liebe Nennst (Bausa ) and leave for the brain (KIZ).

In May 2020 the band announced a new album entitled "Metropolis", which will be released on August 28, 2020. The album was inspired by Fritz Lang's film Metropolis . With the single of the same name, the first song from the upcoming album was released on May 29, 2020. Singer BastiBasti directed the accompanying video.

Art works

The band's artwork and music videos are from Callejon singer Bastian "BastiBasti" Sobtzick. He has also created cover artwork for other bands and artists (such as Iconoclast by Heaven Shall Burn , Say Hello to Tragedy by Caliban , Rammstein , KIZ etc.).
