origin

Carl Sigismund came from the Kameke family from the Kratzig family of the Varchminshagen line, a family from Pomerania on the island of Usedom , which was first mentioned in 1298 with Peter, miles de Kamik. His parents were the Prussian captain and heir to Baumgarten Jacob Adolf von Kameke (1690–1744) and his wife Charlotte Christine, née von Haake , daughter of Lieutenant General Ernst Ludwig von Hacke .

Military career

From 1742 Kameke visited the cadet house in Berlin and in 1747 joined the infantry regiment "Prince Franz von Braunschweig" of the Prussian army as a non-commissioned officer . By 1755 he was promoted to Second Lieutenant and took part in the battles near Prague , Kolin , Torgau and Hochkirch during the Seven Years' War . After the war he rose to staff captain in 1770 and captain and company commander in 1774 . Further promotions followed in 1782 to major and in 1790 to lieutenant colonel .

At the beginning of the First Coalition War against revolutionary France in 1792 he was colonel and commander of the “von Borcke” regiment , with which he took part in this war in western Germany and eastern France. In these battles he distinguished himself during the siege of Mainz but especially in the battle of Pirmasens , where he was seriously wounded, so that King Friedrich Wilhelm II awarded him the order Pour le Mérite on October 22, 1792. This award results from the diary entry of the Crown Prince of October 22nd, 1792 in which Colonel Kameke is explicitly mentioned: ... the King had several orders of merit distributed among the commanders and other officers of the army for his slogan (in the camp of Aubange) To show satisfaction.

Kameke was promoted to major general and died in 1795 as commandant of the Küstrin fortress .
