Carlos Mancheno
Carlos Mancheno Cajas (* 1902 in Riobamba ; † October 11, 1996 ) was an Ecuadorian military man and dictator of his country from August 25 to August 31, 1947.
Mancheno played an important role in the “Glorious Revolution” of 1944 and was then Minister of Defense in the cabinet of José María Velasco Ibarra . A short time later he overthrew Velasco Ibarra, declared the constitution of 1906 valid and declared that he wanted to govern with the best men of all parties. However, he did not succeed in forming a government, as revolts quickly arose against his rule, which after brief skirmishes in Ambato led to his abdication in favor of the triumvirate Luis Larrea Alba , Humberto Albornoz and Luis Maldonado Tamayo . After just two days, the triumvirate declared the former Vice President Mariano Suárez , the constitutional successor to Velasco Ibarra, as the new President. Mancheno had fled to the Venezuelan embassy.
