The district of Chaca is located in the province of Huanta in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was formed on December 16, 2015 from parts of the Santillana district. The district has an area of ​​106 km². The 2017 census counted 2262 inhabitants. The seat of the district administration is the 3384  m high village Chaca with 994 inhabitants (as of 2017). Chaca is located 18 km north-northeast of the provincial capital Huanta .

Geographical location

The district of Chaca is located in the Andean highlands in the middle of the province of Huanta. The Río Pacchanga crosses the district to the west and flows into the Río Mantaro in the far west of the district .

The district of Chaca borders in the southwest on the districts of Huanta and Luricocha , in the northwest on the district Santillana and in the east on the district Uchuraccay .
