Charles Vilain XIIII
Charles Ghislaine Guillaume Burgrave Vilain XIIII (born May 15, 1803 in Brussels , † November 16, 1878 at Leut Castle near Maaseik ) was a Belgian politician .
Life
Charles Ghislaine Guillaume Vilain XIIII ("Vilain Quatorze"), from a respected Belgian family, was a son of Viscount Philippe-Louis Vilain XIIII. He received his education first in a high school in Paris , then came to the Jesuit institute in St. Acheul near Bordeaux and studied philosophy at the University of Liège from 1822 . From 1823 he lived at Leut Castle, where he engaged in various studies. In 1828 he entered the journalist career and in 1830, after the Belgian revolution against the Netherlands , he was elected to Congress by the province of Limburg , in which he voted for a hereditary monarchy, but with democratic institutions. As secretary of the Congress, he read the elected King Leopold of Saxe-Coburg on July 21, 1831, the solemn certificate of appointment on the Königsplatz in Brussels. In 1831 he became a member of the legislative second chamber, then governor of East Flanders and 1832-1839 envoy to the courts of Rome , Turin , Florence and Parma . From March 30, 1855 to October 31, 1857 he was Minister for Foreign Affairs, in which capacity he steadfastly defended the principle of freedom, combined with that of law. He died on November 16, 1878 at his Leut Castle near Maaseik .
