history
The history of Chartrené can be traced back to the 6th century when this square was called Quaterniacus . The local historians assume that a country house stood here in Roman times. In the 7th century the first construction of the church of St Maurice was built after the bishop of Angers , St Magnobodus (also St Mainboeuf ) visited the site of a miracle. In the 11th century the name Catriniaco appears for Chartrené .
With effect from January 1, 2016, the municipalities of Bocé , Chartrené , Cheviré-le-Rouge , Clefs-Val-d'Anjou , Cuon , Échemiré , Fougeré , Le Guédeniau and Saint-Quentin-lès-Beaurepaire became part of the existing Commune nouvelle Baugé-en-Anjou integrated. The municipality of Chartrené belonged to the Arrondissement of Saumur and the canton of Beaufort-en-Vallée (until 2015: Canton Baugé-en-Anjou ).
Attractions
The current single-nave construction of the St-Maurice church dates back to the 12th century. It has retained its Romanesque style.
The small town has two other buildings classified as cultural monuments: the castle from the 14th to 17th centuries and the presbytery from the 13th century.
Three water mills and a windmill are distributed over the district.
