history

Le Guédeniau is one of the oldest towns in Anjou . In Gallo-Roman times it was called vadum danielis . As early as 250 AD, a Roman road was running on a route similar to that of the D 58 today. Here was a ford through the Brocard. In the 11th century the settlement was first called Gué de Daniel, then Le Gué de Nau, from which the current name developed (Gué = German ford).

With effect from January 1, 2016, the municipalities of Bocé , Chartrené , Cheviré-le-Rouge , Clefs-Val-d'Anjou , Cuon , Échemiré , Fougeré , Le Guédeniau and Saint-Quentin-lès-Beaurepaire became part of the existing Commune nouvelle Baugé-en-Anjou integrated. The municipality of Le Guédeniau belonged to the Arrondissement of Saumur and the canton of Beaufort-en-Vallée (until 2015: canton of Baugé-en-Anjou ).
