Cheviré-le-Rouge is a town and commune Déléguée in the French commune of Baugé-en-Anjou with 1,000 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Maine-et-Loire in the region of Pays de la Loire .
geography
Cheviré-le-Rouge is located in the northeast of the Maine-et-Loire department in an agricultural area, also known as Baugeois , on the border with the Sarthe department .
history
In 1047 , Countess Agnès, wife of Geoffroy II Martel , donated a church on the old property of the Anjou family . In 1096 the property went to a monastery in Vendôme through an exchange of territory . In 1437 , during the Hundred Years War , the church was strengthened into a fortified church. In 1588 considerable damage was caused by the passing Huguenots . At the end of the 16th century , near Cheviré-le-Rouge, on the way to Baugé , the church of a Protestant parish, whose territory covered large parts of the Baugeois, stood.
With effect from January 1, 2016, the municipalities of Bocé , Chartrené , Cheviré-le-Rouge, Clefs-Val-d'Anjou , Cuon , Échemiré , Fougeré , Le Guédeniau and Saint-Quentin-lès-Beaurepaire became part of the existing Commune nouvelle Baugé-en-Anjou integrated. The municipality of Cheviré-le-Rouge belonged to the Arrondissement of Saumur and the canton of Beaufort-en-Vallée (until 2015: canton of Baugé-en-Anjou ).
Attractions
The church of St-Médard dates from the 12th century, the choir from the 13th century. It is located on the Circuit des églises accueillanes en Anjou tourist route . Restored wash house.
