Christopher "Chris" Brunt (born December 14, 1984 in Belfast ) is a Northern Irish football player who is currently under contract with West Bromwich Albion .
Player career
Chris Brunt played in his youth at St. Andrews, an amateur club from Leicestershire . During this time he was already doing his first training sessions with renowned English football clubs such as Manchester United and Middlesbrough FC . It was the last named club that gave the midfielder a professional contract in 2002. At Middlesbrough, Brunt had no chance to prevail against high-profile midfielders like Boudewijn Zenden or Gaizka Mendieta . He was therefore not used in the first team. As a result, he was awarded to the then third division Sheffield Wednesday for the 2004/05 season . In its first season, Brunt helped the club move up to the second division. In the meantime, he had left Middlesbrough on a free transfer and extended his original loan deal with Sheffield. During the 2006/07 season, the midfielder completed his 100th league game for the club and was at this point already the player with the most club games on the team. Because of his good performance, he was voted Sheffield Player of the Year by the Vital Football website at the end of the season .
In August 2007, Brunt was signed for £ 3 million from league rivals West Bromwich Albion . At the end of the season he rose to the Premier League with his new club . This was followed by direct relegation as bottom of the table in 2009 and immediate resurgence in 2010.
National team
Chris Brunts good performances at Sheffield Wednesday enabled him to make the leap to the Northern Irish national football team . On August 18, 2004, he came to a friendly game against Switzerland (0-0) for the first time to a 9-minute mission. After his initial appointment, he played two more games for the U-21 team and one game for the U-23 team.
