Kieran James Ricardo Gibbs (born September 26, 1989 in Lambeth , London ) is an English football player .

Career

The original midfielder, who was converted into a defensive player during his training period, began his career at FC Wimbledon in the local football academy and moved to Arsenal FC after the youth department there was dissolved in 2004 . He first played for the Arsenal U18 team. In the preparatory games of the professional Arsenal team against FC Barnet and Inter Milan , he was only on the bench. In September 2007 Gibbs signed a professional contract with Arsenal and was named a player in the first-team squad. His first experience in the professional team of Arsenal he made on October 31, 2007 in the League Cup game against Sheffield United .

On January 31, 2008, he moved to the end of the 2007/08 season on loan to Norwich City . Gibbs returned one game before the end of the season and took his place on the bench at Arsenal. In the 6-0 victory of Arsenal in the League Cup against Sheffield United on September 23, 2008 Gibbs played 90 minutes for the first time. He made his league debut (played 90 minutes) on February 8, 2009 against Tottenham Hotspur (0-0).

After Gaël Clichy left for Manchester City in July 2011, Gibbs was gradually built up by coach Arsène Wenger as the new regular left-back. From the 2012/13 season onwards, he was considered “set” in his position at Arsenal, completed 55 league games in the following two years and also won the FA Cup in 2014 . In the following year he increasingly had a stubborn competitor, Nacho Monreal , who also ensured that Gibbs was only allowed to watch the final from the bench when successfully defending his title in the English Cup .

Gibbs has been under contract with West Bromwich Albion since August 2017 .

International

Gibbs made his Champions League debut on December 10, 2008 against FC Porto when substituting for Abou Diaby . He made his first major international appearance with the English U19 national team at the 2008 European Championships and a year later with the U21 team at the European Championships in Sweden , where he finished second.

On August 11, 2010 Gibbs played his first international match for England against Hungary (2-1) when coach Fabio Capello came on for Ashley Cole in the second half . A good three months later, he made his first appearance from the start in a game against France .
