Dara Joseph O'Shea (born March 4, 1999 in Dublin ) is an Irish football player who is under contract with the English second division club West Bromwich Albion . The defender has been with the Irish U21 national team since March 2019 .

Career

society

Born in the Irish capital, Dara O'Shea moved to the youth department of the English club West Bromwich Albion in 2015 after previously working for the St. Kevin's Boys. In the 2015/16 season, the central defender was used for the first time for the reserve team in Premier League 2. In the following season 2016/17 he was already considered a regular player in this selection and played 20 league games in which he scored a goal.

On August 25, 2017, he moved to Hereford FC in the seventh-rate Southern Football League Premier Division on loan for six months . The loan business was expanded in January 2018 until the end of the season. He met seven times in all competitions for the Bulls and rose with them to the sixth class National League North , whereupon he returned to West Bromwich .

On August 7, 2018, O'Shea moved to fourth division Exeter City on a six-month loan deal . He made his debut on September 29, 2018 (matchday 10) in a 1-1 draw against FC Port Vale when he came on for Lee Martin in the closing stages . In mid-November 2018, he made his breakthrough into the starting line-up and on January 5, 2019, the loan agreement was extended until the end of the 2018/19 season. In total, he played 27 league games in the Grecians jersey .

On August 13, 2019, O'Shea made his debut for the West Bromwich Albion first team when he played the full distance of the game in the 1-2 league cup loss to Millwall FC . This season he was only used in the reserve for the time being, while the men of the Baggies fought for promotion to the Premier League . It was not until December 21, 2019 that he was considered by head coach Slaven Bilić for the first time in a second division game , when he replaced the injured Kyle Bartley in the 49th minute of a 1-1 draw against promotion rivals Brentford FC . On January 24, 2020, he signed a new three-year contract. From then on, Bilić used him regularly as a full-back . On February 9, 2020 (31st matchday), he scored his first league goal in a 2-0 away win against Millwall FC.

National team

Dara O'Shea played eight times for the Irish U17 national team from September 2015 to April 2016 and scored one goal. He then played three friendly international matches for the U18s between May and November 2016 . From September 2016 to March 2018 he was in 10 games of the U18 in which he scored a goal. He has been a U21 national player since March 2019 .
