Nathan Ferguson (born October 6, 2000 in Birmingham ) is an English football player who has been under contract with the first division club Crystal Palace since July 2020 . The defender is currently an English U20 international .

Career

Ferguson moved to West Bromwich Albion Youth Academy at the age of eight . There he played in various junior selections and received his first professional contract with the Baggies on December 21, 2017 . He spent the entire 2017/18 season with the U23 team in Premier League 2, where he made 20 appearances and scored one goal. In the following season 2018/19 he played 19 league games for the U23.

For the 2019/20 season he was promoted to the first team of coach Slaven Bilić . He made his debut in the EFL Championship on August 3, 2019 (1st matchday) when he started the 2-1 away win against Nottingham Forest . As a result, he established himself as a regular player. On September 28 (9th matchday) he met for the first time in the professional area in the 2-0 away win against Queens Park Rangers . In January 2020 he slipped out of the starting lineup. In June of the same year it was announced that Ferguson would be leaving the Baggies at the end of the month because he refused to renew his expiring contract. By July 2020 - the season was not yet over due to the COVID-19 pandemic - he had completed 21 league games in which he scored one goal and one assist.

On July 21, 2020, his free transfer to first division club Crystal Palace was announced, where he signed a three-year contract.

National team

On May 27, 2018 Ferguson played his only game for the England U18 national team in a 1-0 win in a friendly international match against Hungary U19 . He then took part with the U19s in the 2018 U19 European Championship in Finland , where he played a game.

On September 9, 2019, he made his debut in a 1-0 win against Switzerland in the U20 Elite League for the U20 team .
