Qaarusulik [ ˈqɑːʁusulik ] (according to the old spelling K'ârusulik ) is a deserted, fallen Greenland settlement in the district of Upernavik in the Avannaata Kommunia .
location
Qaarusulik is located on a small island of the same name in Melville Bay . To the east lies the much larger island of Kiataasaq (Amdrup Ø). The closest place is Kullorsuaq 23 km southeast.
history
Qaarusulik was settled during the 1920s. The place was the most northerly that was ever in North Greenland , and in fact, like Kullorsuaq, which was founded around the same time, it was actually in no man's land north of the border, which was later moved about 50 km to the north because of this. In 1930 the place had 20 residents. In 1940 there were 26 and 1950 25 people who lived at the living space. Only two years later, Qaarusulik was abandoned.
