Saattoq [ ˈsaːtːɔq ] (according to the old spelling Sãtoĸ ) is a deserted Greenlandic settlement in the district of Upernavik in the Avannaata Kommunia .

location

Saattoq is located on a very small island of the same name . To the south lies the much larger island of Saattorsuaq . The nearest inhabited place is Nutaarmiut ten kilometers to the west.

history

Saattoq was settled before 1887. In earlier times, the residents lived on several small islands in the group before gathering at the later site. From 1911 the place belonged to the municipality Tasiusaq . In 1918 the Saattoq had 34 inhabitants who lived in five houses. There was a catechist among the residents. By 1930 the population halved to 17 people. From 1941 the number of inhabitants was only single digits, but the place remained for a good 15 years. From 1950 Saattoq belonged to the new municipality of Upernavik . It was not until 1957 that Saattoq was finally left.
